News From May 2008

After being sick (or most likely still sick but going out anyway) we went on a walk to the Danish History Museum and checked out all the stuff they pull out of peat bogs. This place is filled with stuff pulled out of bogs... This was the 29th.

And toys...

Saw this at the store. Dumie-pops. Just like Evian water.

Deanna found a display a bit shorter than her and rejoiced.

There were all sorts of creepy dolls in the old toy area.

This one was the creepiest. Hitler as Punch. (From Punch and Judy, look it up.)

We shot photos of us inside the cases when no one was looking.

One of those dudes from the peat bog.

Saw this Bart sticker on the way there.

We went to Tivoli the next day for our second time. This is the 30th.

Did some coaster riding on the Odin Express.

Deanna is not super fond of coasters, but goes on anyway.

She was damn good at the archery too, who knew?

Then we were invited over to Nils' (the gallery owner) house, where they have 3 wonderful children.

Esther was doing strange things all night.

Then the arm-wrestling started. Gustav versus his buddy.

Then I challenged Nils and got defeated easily! He races BMX so I think his arms are way stronger...

Then Gustav helped Esther get her hair ready...

For Esther's performance! Complete with light show, and tickets we had to hand to the security on the way in. There was music, dance, assigned seating, the whole thing.

It was too cute to handle.

We applauded heartily. Then the kids went to bed and we conversed into the night. Such a lovely day and an amazing stay in Copenhagen. Thanks Nils and Dorte.

Because I stayed in all day feeling crappy.

Saw this tree painted on a door in Tivoli and fanned out.

And here are some extra shots from the show.

We walked the streets late Monday after rain had shit down all day mixed with bitter cold and harsh winds. The sun came out for just this small slice of the day, and we were there to catch it.

A mammoth from the flea market the other day.

Aksel, Nils' son, who was born during the last time I showed here, had static on the brain.

Skating is hot in Coppenhagen right now.

So hot.

Put those books in the trash where they belong and turn on your TV, Wait, Strike that, reverse it. Next week I will take a train to Italy to be 'On Press' for my book
Deformer! I hope it all works out!
Right now Deanna is getting over having a cold, and I seem to have picked up a congested head that feels miserable.

ET and DT spent the weekend walking around and shooting photos, not thinking about extraterrestrials... What the fuck were Lucas and Speilberg thinking?

We cruised through Christiania, scoped the bowl, avoided the dirty hippies and pot-heads, (hard to do) and ate some lunch at the veggie restaurant. Very Pleasant.

And we saw a one week old baby horse that made Deanna very happy.

This was in a window...

To attract people to come in and get their hair styled?

Finally, the dildoes I know and love. I have been missing them. Man, is that top
painted on???

The cameras I have been using to cover this fine city.

Deanna is missing her 'Tasty Beverages' from back home. The ones that taste good.

The sun hits the City Hall building, and it is quite striking.

'Probably' the best beer? You sound unsure of your product.

We went to see 'Indiana Jones'... Pretty bummed afterward. Fun, but lame too.

Then on Sunday, we went to the big cemetery (as any Morrissey fan might...) and checked out Hans Christian Andersens' grave.

Someone place a dead bird on there for him. We checked out Kirkegaards' grave too. heavy shit.

Deanna loading her camera to shoot child princesses in Tivoli, the amusement park in the city center. The rides have no signs of safety, kids just jump in and out while still moving...

They let you shoot real stuff at the carnival games! I busted out my best Errol Flynns' Robin Hood impersonation and jammed 3 bulls eyes out of my 5 shots. Booya!

Even won a prize for the lovely Deanna. Here is the guy pulling out my bulls eyes...

So happy, but we miss our kitty Ptah, and our homies Kevin and the team!

I woke up one morning with a delightful electric shock style hairdo, so I matted down the sides into a fashionable 'faux-hawk' that the youth are so fond of these days. Deanna and I messed around taking photos of it...

It was raining on the days leading up to the
opening, and I was very busy trying to finish painting the heads. Many 15 hour days stumbling out of bed to work and stumbling back into bed at 2 am. 3 days with only a paintbrush or spoon in my hand every single minute.

I tried to spray some coating on one head, and the paint started bubbling up. Disaster! The head was totally
fucked up and I had to spend a bunch of time I didn't have trying to repair it.

On Monday, I had an interview for the leading financial newspaper in Copenhagen. Apparently, it is the place to go to read serious art reporting I am told...

So I sent them some of these Faux-Hawk photos that Deanna took and of course...

The used them in the paper...

I'm sure attendance to the show was WAY down after this photo was published! I mean look at that asshole!

This is a photo from the installation day.

We even had to bust out the 'White Glove Treatment' for the heads. Fancy.

Here are some various scenes from the installation.

These kids were the first to show up, Toy board in hand. The perfect Loyal Pawn, I love it!

Here is me during the opening. The opening is my least favorite part of doing an exhibition. It is awkward for me. I get most happy right after we finish installing everything. Then I go into a mild depression.

Some people enjoying the opening.

At our after dinner at a Thai restaurant, I took this photo of our dessert for our pal Stacy. It turns out that the owner of the restaurant makes documentary films about Graf artists, who would have guessed?

Some detail from a drawing I did of Deanna on the 'Danish Design' couch (that is NOT comfortable).
Here is the
Whole Thing.

I was busy putting the last touches on the soft-end of the show. Now I need to work on the hard-end, the wooden head sculptures...

We took a walk in a cemetery, one where Hans Christian Anderson is buried, but we didn't visit his grave.

We did see a very small puppy that made Deanna freak out.

And saw these nice flowers... Really?

I thought this statue was quite cool, naked lady with bow rides elk...

Deanna bought a dress because it was getting hot, but then the next day it turned cold and she is bumming.

More details.

We had dinner at home. Pasta and salad. (Boring, yes I know. Click
HERE for more exciting art-damaged stuff)(And it's not cheesy, it's vegan-cheesy.)(How that for even cheesier?)

Here is Deanna at our apartment...

And her waving from the window. The place we are staying is in an amazing location! We never really get over it.

We are nestled among these quaint canals.

The studio is in chaos-mode.

Some work that is at the framer getting framed. This week I work on the wooden heads.

Saw these cookies. If you eat all of them...

You will need this ass-sander-vibrator treatment. I'm sure Kaiser-Permanente will cover it.

We went to the cafe that has the Vegan Burger again. This time we were gonna shoot photos for Stacy and Lindsay to see our vegan treats, but we almost forgot...

The food takes FOREVER to come, so we sat there looking at each other.

I started entertaining myself by shooting photos with the digi-cam.

Getting more and more creative/bored as we went.

Deanna shot some of me too.

Then started lurking on other people...

Until they felt creeped out.

They finally came, and we started chowing down... Then I rememered we waned to shoot them!!

The aftermath, we left some of the potatoes to watch our figures.

For dessert, Deanna was very happy to get another Kahlua laced soy milk. Supersized.

The new website has some weird navigation, so bear with it please! And keep commenting your thoughts!

Saw this duck in a pot while walking around one day.

Just messing around shooting things as we strolled.

Deanna wanted to go check out the swans.

They were very brave.

Busy eating.

They have roaming TV inspectors here. Random inspections to see if you are watching the Playboy channel.

The view from where the duck in the pot was hanging out.

Last night was very still, cold, and fantastic outside.

The Danes LOVE 'That 70's Show' it runs back-to-back all day long it seems. Deanna is hooked.

Another random studio shot of stuff in progress.
I was told I have an interview in this online magazine:
Racket Mag.

I have working on my 'crying girl' series...

got artsy with some shadows.

Shot this one before I put the tears in...

And after.

Deanna assures me that she is NOT bored. She has been making art and walking around taking photos.

Another detail of some artwork.

This one is a detail of a big 2 piece thing on paper.

This too.

It has been very hot! The paper put G-Strings on the front page! But the wind is icy cold today.

The studio is getting messier and messier the more time i spend in this little area.

I am
working from when I get up, to when I go to sleep, except for Saturday, I took the day off and cruised around town all day with Deanna. (we saw the movie Iron-Man too! but since it had Danish subtitles, I never could tell what those damn terrorists were saying...)

Some details of finished things prior to framing...

Sneak Peeks.

and Lame Sneak Peeks...

Writing in my journal I thought what if someone made
Spunk Flavored Candy? Oh, they already do that here.

Then I used the amazing facility that is at my disposal here for the first time to get the head sculptures I am working on ready.

They have every possible tool known to man here to be used by artists who work with metal. (and they have a whole separate studio for wood, textiles, etching and printmaking, you name it...)

I put Deanna on the metal rod sawing detail...

We took an outing one night to go see photographer extraordinaire Sally Mann
speak. She was awesome. I got a book signed by her for my collection.

This is Deanna, very happy to be drinking a soy-milk laced with a tad of Kahlua. I might be getting lucky!

Here is a shot of the money we are using. Beautiful. This equals 120 bucks,

Last night there were drunken soccer hooligans out in force.

Work is moving along at a seemingly snails pace, but moving nonetheless.
Some of the work reminds me of
home.

I have some epically manufactured aluminum word bubbles to play with.

Here is a sneak peek at the thing I finished today.

And another sneak peek to whet your eye-whistle.

No, I don't have a royalty complex. At night it gets chilly, and the restaurants provide blankets for their customers to use. Hopefully Deanna thinks it is cute, because I really want to be
doing it tonight.

On our way back to the apartment, the scene was particularly serene and picturesque. Cue the soul-jam 'I'm gonna sex you up' music now...

Frantically trying to get work done. I have been using a hair dryer to speed things up.

This morning we prepared a big piece of paper using water from the canal.

Things in progress. (That's Chrissy from Mothers!)

Deanna has been spending her time making cute "mini-art"

We have been LOVING not living our lives from a car. Doing lots of walking.

The building here are very nice at sunset.

On our walks we lurk with our cameras real hard.

The fountains here would please the goth kids, although the goths hang out in a different spot.

Yesterday, my head was exploding with a headache, Deanna tried to sooth it as I continued getting carpal tunnel. I am pleased to be getting it in such a beautiful setting.

Deanna and I went on a walk early in the morning, the Danish are so nice posting signs reminding you not to drive into the water.

The area we are living in is very sweet. Although we found out that
Sophie is a bad, bad little girl.

The rest of the day was spent painting, which at best is just sitting all day, trudging through repetitive motions, getting fat, and watching bad TV.

Things are moving along though. Only 18 days until the show.

Deanna must be pretty bored, though she won't admit it.

She made this work of art, I think we are gonna start doing co-labs...

Progress is being made, but slowly, and I know stress is on the horizon...

I set up a workstation in the apartment, because the studio seemed a bit open to traffic from random people.
Here is a better indication of where we are staying.

And this is a view from my window.

A closer view using zoom technology. People launch kayak adventures from across the canal. Deanna was noticing how they make you put on blue fly-fishing style water pantaloons...

Also from my window, but looking right towards the big canal.

This is a scene from the studio, I have a bunch of heads that Deanna and I are preparing.

More stuff from the studio.

My sketchbook 'staging' area.

And a selection of paint. It's not like paint from home, but works the same.

I was welcomed with neon. This city will be my home for one month.

This is the house where I have an apartment. It is in a very beautiful and quant area near a small canal that leads to a bigger canal.
This is the
view from about 10 feet outside of my front door. And this is the
view if you turn around and look out to the big canal.

This in Nils who owns the gallery I will be showing at. He is with two of his 3 children, Aksel and Esther.

We walked to the big square in Copenhagen running around buying art supplies and paint. It rained off and on.

It was an eventful first day, I was photographed for Wonderland Magazine.

Then jet-lag set in and we got home and crashed.
