News From July 2008

It was officially my birthday. I woke up exhausted from the first days adventures, looking forward to a relaxing day with Deanna, when another surprise happened. A knock on our hotel door... Kevin, Grif, Grant and Rob came over for a fun filled day of adventure! Again, totally flabbergasted. Deanna was a sneaky devil.

We got our boat and headed right to Frog Rock. We climbed up and
surveyed the scene before repeatedly
getting rad.
L. Kincade was there with high-tech underwater filming devices in production of Logan Kincade #14.

You can see
him at work here.

And yes, (Mark and Oliver) even a
13-year-old girl climbed up and jumped off.

Later, we hit the arcade, and I DESTROYED all comers at air-hockey.

IS THERE NO ONE ELSE?

Soon the day was over, and yet again we walked our homies to the boat dock to leave while we stayed on the island.
Parting is such sweet sorrow. The guys want to come back to see
Kenny Loggins perform sometime next month. The island brought people together, Grant and Rob became the
BFF's we all knew they were.

The night was young for Deanna and I, we were off to find dinner and walk amongst the islands nightlife, namely, drunken, sunburned dudes with straw hats stumbling out of Luau Larry's while the one man band plays
'Welcome to the Jungle'.
THIS is today too...

Deanna was the architect of a tremendous surprise birthday extravaganza. She planned 3 days on Catalina Island, each day with a new posse of friends. The first day, as I got into line in Long Beach for the boat, I turned around and saw Lindsay, Oliver, Ashley, and Mark. I was totally caught off guard.

We cruised over to the island in the Commodore's Lounge.

Santa Catalina is part of a bigger chain of Channel Islands.

Lindsay got a present for me: A strap on microphone and speaker system so I can give a guided tour as I steer the boat around... It was a BIG hit.

We strolled around after our boat adventure and
Ashley was feeling very patriotic.

We took pictures on the mermaid/mer-man bench,
Mark couldn't resist frenching the
Howard Finster-esque mer-man.

Later we discovered Marks dark secret, his only tattoo is a portrait of Roseanne Barr on his ass.

It was so nice to spend a day frolicking in the sun with some friends, thanks Deanna for making this happen, and to Ashley, Mark, Lindsay and Oliver for coming over and making this day super memorable.

We sent them off into the evening back home, it was nice getting to stay on the island as the boat went off to the horizon.
And a special THANKS to all the people who wished me a Happy Birthday on the comments page!!!!

So I will be officially 'pushing 40' in a few days. I go from 35 to 36.

Deanna is taking me to a
secret location for a three day rest.

I have been skating the HB park as much as I can, I hope it is still there when I get back.

I will not be updating for the next 3 days. (not that anyone looks here, boo hoo!)

So watch
L. Kincade 13, or check the
RVCA Blog instead. Check back later for more nothingness and time-wasting.

The family is from the Netherlands, the father is the director of a museum I once did a show at.
Aaron Rose was down at RVCA (with Brendan) getting the new
ANP Quarterly magazine together with a killer re-design by the illustrious Casey Holland. So, we had dinner, vegan style of course, at Native Foods in Costa Mesa.

Later that night little 9 year old Noah started assembling his army men...

I couldn't help but amass my own army.

Soon we were both running around the house finding figures to add to our armies.

They were getting huge! This was gearing up to be some epic battle.

The stand off.

Deanna was shocked at all the crud I have stashed around our house! You would think I was still 6 years old. In the end I had more figures (I did have home court advantage) and the sect paintings my friend gave me are formidable beasts. I was declared the
WINNER!!!! Good job Ed, not letting the 9 year old win! What a doosh!

The
Blue Angels of Skateboarding showed up to wow us with their high-falutin' antics. Rob and Grant perform their trademark move, the head 2 head feeble transfer at high speed. They just miss each other.
Yesterday was seen as the last weekend to skate the famous HB skatepark, since the going rumor was that Tuesday is the last day. (Although the contract gets
awarded on Tuesday, who knows when the actual demolition will take place, we could have another month!!!) Either way, people showed up in force for their last shred, and at dusk, as the sun was slicing through the bars low in the sky a huge posse showed up and a gool ol' mega sesh started with everyone getting gnarly at once. It was like when the park first opened, and I am totally honored to have been a part of this jam.
Lets start from the beginning. I got there at 2:30, and started shredding with a bunch of younger kids.

Then the red-bull army showed up. Look at this guy's face. He knows. He's thinking, 'Why did we roll up here? We are complete losers.'

There was seriously a whole parade of them.

L. Kincade was loving the ridiculousness of it all.

Matt B moves in for a slight mack.

Then starts talking one of the girls up. Straight Simping.

Zach and his Woman enjoy the free energy drinks.

Kevin went around and shot portraits of some of the people there. Mouse.

Rob.

Ed.

Matt B.

Andrew.

Zach, who brought the tunes. We plugged his ghetto blaster into the school outlet with an extension cord.

Brian H.

Cody.

Grant.

JJ in his hippie-van.

Curly.

Nick t showed up too with some sweet
grip art.

Then we started doing feeble trains on the flat bar... (oh what a sweet flat-bar!)

We were trying to get all 4 dudes on at the same time, but we were going to fast.

Almost ran over that kid.
What an epic session! Seriously, I have been skating the park since it opened, and this was one of the best sessions ever. I was there for a straight 6.5 hours! I'm so sore today I can barely walk. Hopefully we can get some more epic ones in before the bulldozers show up, but this was good enough and will be hard to top.

Kevin for the last month could only talk about
The Dark Knight, if the preview came on in a movie we were seeing, he would shoosh you, sit up straight, and watch with all his power. He read all the comics as a boy, and loved the first one,
Batman Begins. So he was all balled up in a frenzy when this day arrived. He called me last week and invited Deanna and I to go see it with him and his girlfriend Amanda at the Arclight theater in Los Angeles, on their famed 'Dome' screen. Basically the best place to see a movie in Southern California.

We got there and found our seats, Kevin was writhing in anticipation.

The Arclight had projected a Batman logo on the screen which only served to get Kevin more happy.

The movie delivered!

What joy it gave us.
It was a really good movie, you should see it. It doesn't disappoint like
Hellboy does. Check out
this guy.

Then on our drive home we stopped off at Geoff's house for a visit. He has a super old painting of mine framed and hanging in his house. I hadn't seen it in over 15 years.

What a long day...

Got this e-mail from Timothy at
Emerica Shoes: Check out these amazing photos from the Fingercroxx Emerica Collab that you worked on for Double Park, the premiere boutique in Hong Kong.
We worked together to do a full installation with their stores, and they are really happy with everything. Enjoy!

They even did a
Billboard and shot it
at night for us to see! Thanks Double Park! Thanks
Emerica!

Yes ladies and gentlemen, Ptah will be 18 years old soon, you first saw him in Useless Wooden Toys (an old New Deal video from 1990) (and he was in 411 #30 I think too...) and after various medical mishaps, he lives on in perfect condition. (well maybe he can't hear too well...)

And here is Deanna with Professor Schmitt, creator of Schmitt Stix, one of my first sponsors in skateboarding. These photos brought to you by Ashley Macomber, who loves when I get too hasty with my
corn on the cob eating, and squirt cayenne pepper and lemon juice into my eye.

Geoff was my spectator buddy.

Billy got 13th place, so he was in the stands watching with us...

He whispered some secrets to Deanna (or was trying to neck with her...)

Then a fight happened with some Brazilians and some smoker dude, Geoff was on crutches and we thought we were gonna be stampeded. Everyone cleared out real quick, kids were crying, it was total chaos.

This is my shot of the fight, you can't really see anything.

Alex Moul was there too!

Then I saw Rick McCrank signing autographs and we went out to dinner...

And he and Lee came over for some conversation.

Started the day in Laguna beach with Ash and Mark, ate some food and took a swim in the ocean. Very pleasant.

The beach was packed with people. Then I was off to the Maloof Money Cup to watch Billy...

Billy was feeling 'tired' but handled some serious trickery including about 3 hammers down the gap, and a bunch on the bump to bar including his trademark big-spin kick-flip to flat.

Yay Billy-! But this will be aired on CBS!!!! Why not wear a Toy shirt? Sheesh.

I forgot to get a photo of Billy on the Jumbo-Tron, so here is Tommy Sandoval bailing...

Then I went into the fair where my pal Ashley got deep fried Oreo cookies.

There was some sweet buzz-saw wiener artwork on one of the rides.

After a long day we got 25-cent foot massages.

Then on the way out, we saw these girls laying down on the ground getting weird. Deanna and I swooped in and took some photos. Wanna see that
closer?

How un-vegan of me to be eating a shaved ice...

Went to the Maloof Money Cup, wow, this cement park was built (200,000 dollars) and will be destroyed after the contest on Sunday.

Shit is crazy. I saw Sheckler.

Billy is gonna take this comp.

My vice at the fair: Shaved Ice and Roasted Corn.

Then I lurked on people at the fair. Good times.

The other night Deanna saw a RVCA billboard at Active with her photos on it and it made her happy.

Then I ran into Liz, the events master at RVCA and our eyes glowed blue together.
I have mixed feelings about being back from
summer tour.

Downtown HB is a testosterone fueled armageddon of flesh and beer on the 4th.

We took a walk into the eye of the storm.

Then had a BBQ

Amanda and Allison brought their cute puppy
Zooey.

We chomped some triple-mega vegan cupcakes that Lindsay made for dessert.

Then went on my roof to watch the fireworks out in the ocean...

Stopped in Santa Cruz for a quick walk on the Boardwalk.

Where Deanna got felt up by some Hoo-Ya Doosh-Bag.

Then drove down to Morro Bay.

And walked on the beach.

The 101 was nice and I avoided all the coppers with their radar guns.

Ate in Santa Barbara while the fires raged hard a few miles north.

A bookstore in Olympia, Washington.

Kevin is bummed on me for leaving the tour after the Seattle demo...

Saw this thing. It is one of the grossest things I have ever seen.

Grif tries to copy my lame face from the end of L. Kincade 12.

I am now at the plush Westin hotel in downtown Seattle, Grif told me to 'be sure to wear the robe.' The room doesn't have a robe, but we shot this photo of me in bed awaiting carnal delights...

...And our weird shower head.
See my shit-eating grin at the end of my Fox 40 (Sacto) apperance in the
