It was my first time there. Very cool, December seems like a great time to go. Barely anyone there, no crazy
mosquitoes.

There were however plenty of
alligators! Human deaths caused by alligators have increased. While there were only nine fatal attacks in the U.S.A. between 1970 and 2000,
eleven people were killed by alligators in the five years between 2001 and 2006 alone. We watched one thrash about while catching a fish--
a
Florida Gar to be exact.

We saw this bird called an
Anhinga. It is similar to a bird we have off the California coast called a
cormorant. It was cool watching them hunt for fish underwater, popping thier heads up like a snake.

Down at the
tip of Florida the sun and the clouds were doing crazy things together.

We shot photos, the place was deserted and romantic.

Deanna was my trail buddy. Making sure no rouge gator was sneaking up for a chomp.

These
Black Vultures were relaxing after a long day of gliding around looking for
carrion.

I found this sign very sad. It's true. They key line is 'What America once
was.'
