Image Description Here
A lot of people commented asking what the fuck was going on, so Geoff posted a comment that I am reposting right below:
It was shot by my good friend Tony Hoza, one of the most respected lion hunters in the West, he retired from guiding after 40 years a few years ago and ever since has been trying to catch one really big cat for himself. In forty years he has only shot two other cats, one was in defense, the other was mounted and then later ruined when his house was flooded. This 170lb male cat was cleanly killed and all the meat packed out to be eaten. The thrill of the hunt is in the chase and the beauty of the surroundings, not the "kill" i have accompanied him on these hunts every year for the last five years and every time has been a pleasure, it is not for the timid or anybody out of shape as the days can be grueling with the snow at times waist deep for hours and the terrain very dangerous.
I'm smiling because i cannot pick the fucker up!!
Any comments?

so if the thrill is really in the chase+surroundings, why not just shoot the animal with a paintball gun or tranquilizer? killing for sport, or any other reason, is lame.

thanks, Ed, for keeping cruelty-free footwear on my skateboarding feet. unfortunately the same can no longer be said for geoff...

fuck you rowley
Posted By: chris on January 16th, 2008 at 12:49PM PST
the picture above isnt helping much in his defense, but what can you do. i personally wouldnt go shooting that cat. the whole things sounds actually very interesting, besides the kill part. but who are we to be the Vegan police (who are always around anyway).Im advocate cruelty-free as much as the next, but its not up to you to decide what someones intentions should and shouldnt be. Its entirely up to you in what you support and dont Improve your corner of the world and share it if you can..just have a better reason than "fuck you man!...thats all i got"--totally educated and awesome
Posted By: look, im vegan as well .... on January 16th, 2008 at 01:06PM PST
Pretty fucking lame, either way you cut it. Sport Hunting is like getting a gold medal in the Special Olympics...even if you win, you are still retarded.

better come up with a damn good part kid!!

another vegan opinion:
hi rowley,
i guess your mate is good at shooting so "the kill" was probably super fast and the animal didn't suffer much. also if the lion was still alive it would kill other animals (and not with a clean shot but with lots of suffering involved for the "prey"). "Unfortunately" nature is like that, starving, freezing to death, or getting preyed on isn't nice. but i'm sure that wasn't your mate's motivation for killing. so why kill? it's not new that hunters claim to be "environmentalists", the WWF was founded by hunters. But how hunters would be environmentalist by means of hunting remains unclear. population control? is there a puma overpopulation? and if there was there would be more "humane" ways to interfere. so the reason for killing is obtaining meat? yeah, right. i agree, that killing a puma for meat is more ethical than meat from any form of captive and then slaughtered animal. and your role in the killing was only as an observer, nothing unethical about that. but geoff, what you do promote with that is that killing animals for meat is OK and not something we could easily leave behind us in 2008. also: why trophy hunting? some would call it the patriarchal idea of submitting and conquering "nature" or maybe the far end of consumer culture where you need to OWN something to be able to enjoy it. i would call it "a bit pathetic" (like flaunting one's possesions of bling and cars and "hot chicks"). what does your mate have to prove?
and what do you have to prove? that you are not one of those irrational puppy loving vegan ladies from AR demos in England? I see your point. Some hunters might be environmentalists, that does not make hunting environmentalism. If the thrill of the chase and the beauty of the surroundings are not enough why not throw a stone at the puma and run?
i once met you in london and i was a bit star struck. I respect you, you are one of the best skaters, everyone knows that. I truly hope that you live a long and "thrilled" life, and that not one day you will share the fate of other Liverpudlian superstars and go down at the hands of some "lunatic" who thinks one needs to kill what one adores.
thanks for reading, cheers mate.

Sounds like some of you need to quit reading the PETA website so much and get out and do something other than skateboard. Id like to suggest fishing, it's loads of fun.

why are all of you pussies so god damn self righteous and pretentious?

some people enjoy doing things different from what you may like to do, get over it.

It's easy to point the finger at someone else and point out their faults and not acknowledging your own. Geoff stated in an interview awhile back he was vegan but felt like having a burger once in awhile. He doesnt let one thing completely control his life, he is hypocritical and doesnt care. Living your life a certain way and standing for your beliefs is great, but everyone has different ways in thinking. Public Enemy says it best, if you dont stand for something you'll fall for anything. Geoff is showing that he stands for his freedom to change his mind or contradict himself anytime he wants.

Ed Templeton is now the only proffesional skateboarder to offer a PURE animal friendly shoe line to skateboarding. That is truly something to aspire to and RESPECT.

It's a topic of much importance to me and, i hope, to many others.

The Rowley shoe models once offered a nice murder-alternative but now...

VIVA the Tempster.

Thank you.

the dumb ass who said that sport hunting is like getting a gold medal in the special olympics is one of the most ignorant things i have ever heard. having a family member who has participated in the special olympics and having helped run the special olympics, there isn't much more self satisfying than knowing you have made the day of the children and adults who are looked down upon as second class citizens. so congratulations on your attempt at a clever remark against sport hunting at the expense of hurting the good spirits of thousands of good-hearted people who want nothing more than to have a day of fun. jackass.

I say good for you man. Im a huge fan of your skills on a skateboard, and hunting as well. There is a reason such beautiful animals are part on this earth, and its so humans can survive. So stop all your bitching you PETA faggots. "The best animal perservist is a hunter."

Who said anything about retarded people being second class citizens? I didn't. I just pointed out a simple fact.

Whose ignorant now?

I'm sorry I hurt your feeling though...

hey Rowley why don't you go kill yourself jumping some big ass gap instead of going around killing beatiful animals like these! this totally sucks ass...hunting is DUM!
Posted By: dutch guy on January 18th, 2008 at 11:33AM PST
Fucking hunting, they should shoot each other and leave the animals alone! Rowley will never get a cent from me again, he supports cruelty to animals, it is sad how much money vegans have given him over the years thinking it was going to support someone who respects animals and doesn't think it is cool to murder them.
Posted By: veganshawn on January 18th, 2008 at 02:42PM PST
I still don't think you should kill mountain lions for sport
Posted By: slipkNOT on January 19th, 2008 at 11:13AM PST
Geoff Rowley can do no wrong. Hunting has been part of living millions of years before any of you fucktards were born. Stop bitching, humans are omnivores. And pull that vegan stick out of all of your asses.
Posted By: Billy on January 19th, 2008 at 07:02PM PST
Hey ''vegan tightass,'' i didnt mean to offend anyone by using the word ''faggots'' its just a bad habit. but heres a question for all members of PETA-- do you live in a house with wood, ever written on paper, or own a skateboard? using wood products is just as bad as killing an animal. i agree hunting for sport is completely unethical, but not if you are going to consume the animal and use all parts of the animal. using wood products means trees were cut down, which means many animals were put out of their place and probably died as a result.

Holy crap, there's so much hate in these comments right now. How come all the vegans posting here are against geoff hanging out with a hunter who's actually respectful towards nature, but none of you questioned if the photo was shot on film or digital (hint: film uses gelatin)?

All vegans have a line to cross where their ideals fail. There are animals in our sidewalks, and probably in the glue holding our skateboards together. Being an absolutely perfect vegan isn't important as much as making an impact and cultivating change in others - and you don't do that by being a pretentious, self-aggrandizing dick.

Veganism should be about love, motherfuckers, not about persecution.

that photo is so punk. the discussions it has raised amongst this generation who sometimes seem like they can't careless about anything other then themselves is encouraging. Thanks for re-posting the photo Ed. Geoff should have a lion for his next board graphic. Rip.

hey we're all gonna die someday. So are the animals, I don't think it really matters.
