Polaroid Film a thing of the PAST?????

Image Description Here
This Polaroid was from Halloween 1984 or earlier... (From L to R my brother, mom, and me as a skeleton/devil) (these days I could have just zipped up my 'skeleton hoody' all the way.)
Could have been before I started skating, or right around then. Go to this painless petition and sign it (in vain even) to Save Polaroid!!! (Do any of you use it?)

mmm I love the look of polaroid... but as any other film, it contains gelatine and that is a problem with me. I always wondered about Ed and other vegan artists using film. If there is a good argument to defend the use of an animal derived product, I would like to hear it ED! honestly!

no one cares about making art anymore, just money. fuck this. getting rid of polaroids is like getting rid of oil paints or clay or whatever. but hey who fucking cares if its not raking in loads of cash, right?

Veronica,

Great question! That is a constant thought in my head too. The only argument for me is that a big part of my life is shooting photos and making prints. For me the choice to not use film would seriously alter my artwork and the way i live my life. I have altered my life to not eat animal products or buy leather, etc... But for me, not using film crosses the line. I have to live with that hypocrisy.

I think everyone needs to draw lines and make judgment calls in their lives.

If I were to take my veganism to each extremity possible, I would have to stop driving because of the bugs I may be killing, or even walking on grass. Then, even plants are alive, so what next?

Those things, along with shooting film, for me, are luxuries I can't live without.

Soon enough, film will be dead like Polaroid, and we will all be using digital, guilt free, I guess.

i do use polaroid, I actually use it for almost 90% of my photography. I imagine using only digital some day..that shit is weak. I think a monkey could take a decent photograph with a digital camera and some photo editing software. I like the fact that you shoot something and it comes out instantly no waiting and you can respect the fact that it's not 100% perfect and that each polaroid has flaws and each one is unique. I have been shooting with polaroid film forever and when your computer dies and takes all of your photos with it...I will be happy sitting around looking through boxes of prints that I have shot over the years. brianhendersonphotography.com

For Polaroids you don't have to piss away time with your computer or get it developed. Polaroids are rad.

I almost bought a large format camera last weekend with the intent to use Polaroid film, but when I checked prices on the Polaroid site for film there were big disclaimers about it being discontinued. I would love to get a large format camera but with out the use of an instant film and the fact that I don't have any way to develop it currently, means im gonna go back to looking at Medium format TLR's.

Posted By: polaroid on March 13th, 2008 at 04:29PM PST
I used to use it non-stop, but the film is so rediculously expensive, and I have no money at all...

But, I still have it and hope to one day blow the dust of of it and bring it the next time I go on a skate exstraveganza.. If that is how you spell it.

i still use polaroids.
its 15 bucks per 10.
i think the prices of the film eventually tops the price of the camera.

i was gonna write a response but there are about a million(?) here, so fudge it....but i remember i got a two pack for $10 once at kmart... i think they actually had the film on the wrong rack. i was like it says "two for one" and they gave it to me without even checking. that was the same kmart that said me and my friends were banned for life for stealing condoms like 1 week before....
