Art in the Streets: The Opening

With over 100 artists in such a massive group show, there is no stress, just fun. We go to people watch.
Went early for a group photo, and then cruised around with some friends taking a pre-opening preview.
Spike Jonze takes a photo of Geoff McFetridge in Banksy's part of the show.
Spike was enjoying the crowd-less preview.
Shout out to Pat Tenore of RVCA in Barry McGee, Tod James', and ESPO's Street Market.
Brian, one of the MOCA's master exhibition coordinators, finally gets a chance to sit down and have a beer.
Craig Stecyk was a bad-ass way before I was even born. This was shot in 1972, the year I was born.
Kenny Scharf decorated a gay-glo room.
Deanna dressed me today.
I didn't get a good photo of Ashley and Grant, but check out her Milk Teeths blog of the evening.
Limited edition shirts by RVCA in the MOCA shop.
Aaron Rose, one of the many masterminds behind the show.
Aaron and Alexis finding out that a pile of junk had to be moved "right away."
I hammed it up for a photo with Brian Grazer and Shepard Fairey.
Whoa! My Uncle Bob Templeton, and his lovely wife Cathy came!
See the family resemblance?
Justin Regan and his amazing wife Bethany. (sorry for the mid-talking photo, always lame.)
Neck-Face tries to talk up a French girl.
Eric Haze and Rosie Perez. Didn't know they were a couple.
Spike is the most down to earth guy ever. So refreshing.
Kevin Spanky Long and Dustin D.
Deanna just walked up to these guys, Seth Rogen and Jake Gyllenhaal, and asked for a photo. Pretty ballsy. They were super nice.
Mike O'Meally smells Erik Ellington's armpit.
Oh shit, The MUSKA!
Muska + Muska.
Margaret Kilgallen.
Alex Olson and his new GF Frankie Rayder?
Miranda July and Ashley Thayer. Both women I have painted portraits of.
Barry McGee's brother, Mike. Great guy.

I didn't know you were in the show. Weird, a lot of random celebs. I'm really excited though. I can't wait until it comes to New York.

you really bring a skateboard and cruise around?

Spike Jonze, styles for miles. (lame ass rhyme, but you know what I mean bruthuh)

Keith Haring car and Nike SB demo? Damn, Milk Teeth post, another eye peering into the same event.
Skate Talk bob hugging his Toy board,LOL.
I really liked the Three people working together to paint a tag thing.

I'm liking the Tie,and shoes. Maybe tuck the shirt in? or is that too Gramps steezey for you. I dunno, it could be cool.

I'm liking that RVCA/MOCA shirt.

Ed. Lookin' hard with Obey. The guy that created the Obama Hope thing. Then republicans made that "Nope" shit. or Dope.

You have the same Mouth and Nose as Bob Templeton.

Calling Neckface Neckface. Why even hid it anymore? Remember when it was a big deal?

Aaron Meza. Not friends.

Seth Rogen! I'm not familiar with Jake G.

Muska looks like Duffel? Kinda?

A.O.? Trooper, answers my stupid questions on his blog. He didn't answer my question "What man, living or dead, would you kiss on the lips if you had to. Or be badass and give 1 living and 1 dead."

Espo's hair.

Wish I could have been there.

Dang Celebrity's Galore!
The show looks really sweet!
I wonder what it would be like to be on acid in that glow room!I recognize a lot of artist from beautiful losers!
The Muska! I just got his shoes the Sky tops. Not really my style but I thought I would try something more urban!
Posted By: josiah on April 15th, 2011 at 11:19PM PST

I hate Neck Face tell him Josiah Herrera hates him!
Posted By: josiah on April 15th, 2011 at 11:24PM PST
I just remember being stoked on Beautiful Losers awhile back and seeing ESPO and his hair, then seeing him getting it cut at the barber shop and having him explain what New York was in the "hay day" and recently watched an interview where Jason Dill is explaining what he thinks it's like to move to New York and it's like almost exactly what ESPO says lol...

What is chad muska even up to these days? I see he's sponsored by Krew and Supra, but does he still push around or is he riding his legend status out? It's ok if he is, I'm not insinuating it's a bad thing I just wonder. I remember he was 'the man' when I was growing up and Fulfill the Dream was literally the largest thing to drop. I still have a glow in the dark Fulfill the Dream tshirt I keep proudly.

Posted By: josiah on April 16th, 2011 at 12:12PM PST
I painted a door today and my brain´s kinda dazed...
Not working today even though I bought vitamin handwash, no effects....
A post you could call catalogue.Celebs! Why talk crappy art...
I mean "Art in the streets" pfff.. Who you foolin?
It´s obviously indoor man!
Ms Ricci is a time traveller, too? Brought the young Afflek,
before booze and JLo.
Mmmmiranda July.
Deanna asked for a photo? Strange world...
Jake G had one of the most romantic hollywood moments ever.
I think Seth too...
Estevan Oriol.Ed and his bodyguard.
That cast looks like some drug smoking unit.
Enough, shitty talk.looks like a great show.
Almost physically hurting watching small pics on a screen.
Any chances for a show like that in Europe sometime soon?
Josiah, what do you mean, Ed´s a socialist?
Jgonz, so you also got one of these orange envelopes that say "KHE"?
Got mine the same day;)
Posted By: S on April 16th, 2011 at 02:16PM PST
Family resemblance.
Is it too late to ask for a photo where you guys switch the hat and glasses?
Even with the beard.Like a puzzle.Your uncle´s wearing your missing piece.
Posted By: S on April 16th, 2011 at 02:36PM PST
Yeah. The like pretty dark yellow envelope with the orange tape.
Posted By: Jgonzalez on April 16th, 2011 at 02:41PM PST
AAAHH I wish I was there! The show looks pretty pretty pretty danm good. And so many beautiful loosers. Mcgee, Powers, Shepard and even Kilgallen (my favourite female artist). I would love to go but it's half a globe away so it's not exactly done in a heartbeat. Considering I just dropped my friends iphone in the water I won't afford much these next couple of months. Bad luck!
Posted By: emilie on April 16th, 2011 at 03:12PM PST
Speaking of Obama. Marquise Preston could totally play a skateboarding Obama stunt double in a movie.
Posted By: Jgonzalez on April 16th, 2011 at 04:41PM PST
I meant more like he should run for president!I trust him!

Chad Muska looks like this guy!

Oh yea I have been thinking about becoming a free mason. What do you guys think?? I think it would be something positive but I need to find a free mason to get me in.
Posted By: josiah on April 16th, 2011 at 04:43PM PST
i just got here from the real premiere at active escondido.
packed with of kids, i felt old, it was weird waiting for the video next to
long haired kids with beanies and with shake junt or plan b shirts.

james hardy, jt aults, and ernie torres where there.

the video KILLED.
too bad those kids ,which made the majority of the audience, were too cool to applaud at tricks, whistle, and yelling "WOO!" at the end of each dudes parts, unlike me.
or theyre probably stupid little shits who will stop skateboarding in a year or so.

whatevs, hardy opened, hardy destroyed.
everyone had full parts except for torres and dompierre who shared a montage, but they certainly delivered and did not dissapoint AT ALL, it really didnt seem like a shared section.

when ernie passed by me i said "estuvo chingona tu parte"
(your part kicked ass in spanish).
"really? my part, you liked it?"
and im all "simon, homie!" (yea, dude!)
he smiled, pats me in the back and looks at me and says
"thanks dude, i really appreciate it! muchas gracias mi amigo"
awesome dude.

watch out for hungry ams perelson, massimo cavedoni, and ishod wair.
their parts were truly outstanding.

brock has two sections, that'll give you an idea of the gnarlage.

schaaf is a fucking badass, hand down. and he also shreds.

ramondetta skates non-stop. back to back carnage of rails, manuals, tech wizardry, ledges, hubbas, and gaps. shit, theres only one slomo trick in his part!! breathtaking.

busenitz will be 2011's SOTY. he takes it for sure and represents the essence of skatebording and closes the video rightfully so.

the video is a must have for sure, too bad the soundtrack was, in my opinion, unsuitable for skateboarding.
yea, the bands are awesome and certainly love them , like minor threat, fugazi, iggy pop...
but when it came to add it to the skating.. i dunno., it was bleh.
shit, i cant even remember to what music buzenits skated to!
the music wasnt special and fitting. period.

i also congratulated hardy for his part and pro status, shaked his hand. and talked about his new show, which drops next spring.
in hardys words, "its a combination of a forte and a trooper" and showed
me a sample of the design through his iphone.
"i sneak peek just for you!"

there. buy the fucking video.
Posted By: fresh from mex on April 16th, 2011 at 10:48PM PST
There was this Kid At My work work some flat billed hat and a Plan B board/ around and shit. I guess the people that aren't huge nerds for skating don't go on the Internet and bitch. Just want to be steezey.
I can just imagine that group of kids, with their shoelace belts, sagging jeans, little Wayne, and text messaging. Jk.

I usually never watch Justin Brock's debacle part. I didn't like the song.

I still need to buy Brainwash. I'm terrible.
Posted By: Jgonzalez on April 17th, 2011 at 12:31AM PST
That sentence doesn't make sense. Anyway. Like nobody on a messageboard backs Plan B.

And I was talking about some kid I saw shopping while I was at work.

I saw this like 9 year old girl skated to the store in the rain. Board all soaked. And her deck had no grip tape.

I also saw a guy walking out while I was getting carts.
He had a shirt with the "Yeah Right!" video logo on it. Ancient gear.

You belong to the skate community. We´re good people too.
We can help, teach, support each other.Maybe you don´t have all the privileges and influences the free mason have. But you don´t need to become a priest to believe in god and help other people. You do it because of status and power I guess.I´m always sceptic when people head for a certain position kinda outside or above society to help people.Mostly it´s focused on their own interests and power... I don´t say that´s what you´re gunning for, but what´s your intention?
That real video.Looking forward to see that.
Busenitz, Wair, Brock, Ramondetta..they got a pretty tuff team now.
Busenitz BATB matches were outstanding.
There´s a hyper real exhibition with some Close, Eddy, Goings I gonna visit today.Sunday, sunshine, some ice cream and american pop, some good food, snapping around, maybe oral sex for the evening.

Gentlemen, my day needs no heroes.
Have fun, everyone.

Sweet I need to watch the Real Video now!
Well I just feel that I need to be a part of something.I just want to look into and see if its for me.I want to have a fulfilling life an I just think that joining them would help fill the void. Thanks S for listening.I'm really trying to figure this out.

wow that looks crazy. street art's in.
Posted By: vinny on April 17th, 2011 at 11:46AM PST
I think the same can be said about the military and all that.

Fuck everyone.
Posted By: Jgonzalez on April 17th, 2011 at 01:32PM PST
yea I would not go to the military though.I love skateboarding too much to be gone all the time working months on end in different country's and what not.
Posted By: josiah on April 17th, 2011 at 06:43PM PST
What the fuck am I doing with my life? I need to step my game up haha. This opening and the show is epic, and I hate when people over-use that word, but it is definitely appropriate here.

I have so many questions but I can't remember them all now.
Why the hell does NeckFace look like a bum? haha
and, do you know what banksy looks like? if you end up answering this, and say yes, don't feel pressured to describe him, I'm just asking yes or no haha.
I have so much more questions but I'm blanking plus I don't wanna ask too much.
If this post was a meal and I ate it, i would be stuffed for days.

JGonz SVan- What letter? Am I not cool enough to know? hahah
Josiah- Why do you hate Nasty NeckFace so much?
Posted By: Mike on April 17th, 2011 at 10:12PM PST
"Yeah, the show wasn't gay,but it wasn't epic and not too retarded and didn't suck."

Mike,Step your life game up with a Monster Energy drink.
Step your sperm count down too.

We bought Grant's magazine.

It would be fucked/LOL if Ed blogged a photo of Bansky.
"My Pal,Banksy"
The Police are gonnuh read yer blawg!!
so...Edourd,you know Bansky's face? I did trip for a little while at work like "wait, somebody knew who he was to get him to put some shit in a gallery,or something"
Posted By: Jgonzalez on April 17th, 2011 at 10:40PM PST
Truth be told, I have never met Banksy. Although I'm pretty sure he was in the building while I was there installing my work. There was one night where they tried to get everyone to leave, and it was because Banksy wanted to come in and work by himself. I thought that was strange. "kick everyone out so I can work all alone?" Anyway, Justin Timberlake came to see the Banksy work on Thursday. If you ask me, Barry McGee and Os Gemeos smoke him.
Posted By: ed on April 17th, 2011 at 11:59PM PST
It's been my opinion that Banksy is not just A DUDE. Maybe it started out as so, but I think it's a collective of people working under that name. Just an idea...
Posted By: vinny on April 18th, 2011 at 01:11AM PST
The stardom of Banksy terrified the beautiful losers;)

Get kicked out of your own exhibition.A Dan Lu experience.
What did you do in the meantime? Went over to Vincent Gallo´s
house for some scrabble?Deflate his tires?

I go with vinny.Although I don´t think it´s an equal collective.
More like assistants and co workers like almost every artist has.

But who wants to know what he looks like?
He´s a brit, so I guess he looks like a Ritchie, Richards, Cleese combo.
Maybe he also looks like this:
Posted By: S on April 18th, 2011 at 03:15AM PST
Neck Face burned Spanky pretty bad like 3rd degree.
Justin Timberlake? Didn't take him much for an art lover.
Posted By: josiah herrera on April 18th, 2011 at 09:58AM PST
If they let people see Bansky, with blogs these days.
Look what happened to Neckface.

His identity is just a tweet away from being totally blown by some dipshit.
It would be lame for Bansky if he decided to not go to the opening. He probably wouldn't show up at a solo exhibit though.

Crayons coming out of that machine gun? Clever.
Somebody get Staba that Uzi yield sign.

This comment was funny over at milk teeth's blog:
"I really like the artwork of African children. But I do not like the writing on the shirt of one of the boys. It makes in me negative feelings about the positive event. I'm talking about Live Aid."

This too:
"and omg!!!!! you saw gwen and um jake gyllenhaal?! i would have died."
Posted By: Jgonzalez on April 18th, 2011 at 10:13AM PST
I bet we´ve seen him already on some photo.
Maybe he´s a girl. His art is very decorative.
