I have a question. it feels weird to me to be such an obvious fan.girl(boy)--at my age now--like, i'm kinda over band-love--music's rad, but your work has become for me, an even greater obsession to my already obsessive tendencies for admiring, and sometimes dissecting the talents of artists that i love... never liked the term "fan" so much, but whatevs. i will always admire good, genuine, fearless work, and thus i've been following yours since i was a strange teen, who had no trouble meeting friends, and hated the suburbs, but i was into Charlie Manson and Larry Clark at 14, and I've always read A LOT, and though i've only ridden a board a handful of times, skating made more sense to me than anything i'd ever experienced. the people and the freedom.
anyway, i do have a sincere comment and q for you, ed: it's about one photo in particular: "Life is tough, but it's tougher when you're stupid." -John Wayne...is the tag. why that? just that simple? it prob wasn't that obvious to me that the girls pictured were any more vapid than most peeps, but did something stand out? i was intrigued cuz i fairly recently posted this quote on my fb page and i love the metaphor of j. wayne for many reasons (Joan Didion's essay on him, in particular). so, that's my question (if i had you in a room, I would pick your brain for as long as you could stand it) for now. my comment (outside of the many imbedded ones already here): you're the shit. you're a street scholar--the best kind. and i adore your fondness for adding quotes//lines//tags to your work. gives it a lil push for discourse outside of the image alone.

i am long-winded. old habits die hard. i've kicked some major habits, but writing much is something i find more therapeutic than hazardous. so ... so be it.
