Barcelona for the NY Times 7

Earlier this year I went to Barcelona with the New York Times Style Magazine, "T," to shoot photos for a travel story revolving around the fact that Barcelona has historically been a hub of Skateboard, Art, and Graffiti culture. Sadly, the article (and hence my photos) will never run because of staffing changes at the magazine. So I will do a series of posts sharing the photos I took on that trip to Spain this April, 2012.

This post will be all B&W style street shot of people living life in Barcy.

Scanned from a proof sheet, so forgive the poor quality. Neg scans would look a lot better, but I'm too lazy.

I love these photos, especially the second one. She seems so displeased by the fact you're taking her photo...

Hope you feel better, I'm glad you're still posting here and on instagram. I get really bored

Happy anniversary guyz
21 years OMG
almost as long as I've existed.
It still isn't too late to file those adoption papers LOL

But srsly. You did it. May your love grow like the mighty redwood.

Is there a worse looking angle to your leg? The other side? I dunno. Your staples or whatever it was looked pretty nice and clean. But man. That's gonna leave a gnar mark. Street cred. I kinda want to see the worse side. If you don't feel like grossing out all your insta followers you can post a twitter exclusive.
Does it smell also? I've been nursing that laceration I got on my hand for a minute now and it stank pretty bad for a second before I started washing it everyday when it became less tender.
Posted By: Jgonzalez on November 16th, 2012 at 06:18PM PST
Maybe I missed something..but how did that leg break actual happen?
Posted By: S on November 16th, 2012 at 06:25PM PST

@S I think he said that it was a nose grind on a pyramid flat bar gone wrong
Posted By: Tenant on November 17th, 2012 at 12:05AM PST
Yes, S, just a nose grind. Bailed wrong, weight in wrong place. Shattered both bones.
Posted By: Ed on November 17th, 2012 at 12:24AM PST
just watched that leica interview. quite nice. again, listening to ed talk about photography makes me wanna pick up a camera and lurk

Happy 21 years!! Technically it was yesterday, right? You guys are an inspiration to say the least.

Dig these photos. Thanks for posting while hurt, it's appreciated by all of us. It really sucks that you're hurt. Wishing you a quick painless recovery.

The second photo, that woman is looking at you weird for taking a photo of her, but she looks like she's going to eat that dog haha.

Happy 21st Anniversary! I got two years on that haha

Great b&ws.

8th photo down... Man or women? Or both?

I'm not opposed to taking slams or bailing on a board, but I never learned how to fall correctly, so just bailing could result in an injury. Just like yours!
Get well. Don't grow to the pills.

Old people look cool. They could tell you a million things, but they don't give a fuck to.

You've been a lover as long as I've been alive.
Congrats!

Have you seen the photos from the man-date, Ed?

Flickr has been updated.
I have a roll of film with tons of photos of you from the Active San Dimas Halloween demo, needa get those developed.
Remember nearing the end while you& Deanna were walking towards your car and a kid skating by crouched on his board snapped a photo (with flash) of you? That was me. If I had a Leica, it'd be a lot more silent, just the way you like it. You would've had no idea. But now you know. And I bet your immediate thought was, "Did that kid just shoot a photo of me?" or maybe "What's that gonna come out looking like?" But I'm sure you're used to a lot of people shooting photos of you. Whatever. I'm just rambling on.

I wonder if Ed's gonna eat some kind of Vegan turkey for Thanksgiving? (not sure if Vegan Turkey exists?)

One day I'll go to a Toy demo! Maybe when they go to ABQ! That's the closest I'll get!

Congrats Josiah!
Hope this hasn´t anything to do with your job;)

I had tofurkey last year and it was horrid in my opionion.
I'm not a fan of fake meats though, some people (like my parents) really enjoy the stuff though.
I prefer beans and quinoa for protein
Posted By: Tenant on November 19th, 2012 at 09:20PM PST
Oh and Josiah, I am still beating myself up for not going to the Toy demo when they came to DOS in Portland a few years back.
And Ed was there!

I'll have to try something from Gardien, I've never eaten it before. Still no thanksgiving plans so maybe I will pick some up for then.

omg. guyz. I'm currently now planning a trip to London. I have so many questions. like, do credit cards work. how much money should I bring. how can I pay for stuff, I don't want to carry around tons of money. where should I go, what museums, churches, places, things. I want to spend a week there. can I ride the train to paris? how many days would that take. yeah. I'm trying to go this summer. has anybody been? Tips?
Posted By: Jgonzalez on November 20th, 2012 at 09:57PM PST
Jgonz, London! Dang
Jealous
Posted By: Tenant on November 21st, 2012 at 11:23AM PST
Yeah, Jgonz, tell me when you´ll go and we´ll meet in London or Paris,
or where ever you`ll be or like to meet.
I guess you prefer London, you romantic fucker;)
You can go almost everywhere in Europe by train.
Yes, we do have crdeit cards ( I wish we didn´t).
You dind´t know that? We also have fridges and witches..

So you can pay this way or what about Amex traveller checks.
I used them a lot when not wanting to travell with tons of money
(wich of course I have-tons!!!)
When you figured out more specifically what your plans are let me know.
You´ll easy get a flight from London or Paris to whatever big city in Germany for less than 100 bucks...
Posted By: S on November 21st, 2012 at 12:59PM PST
I ment Paris of course, though London would be romantic as well.
Since we´re all half gay;)

I'm aiming to go late June
Yeah, i've saved some monies and It's something I want to do with my life.
100 dollars? it's gonna be like 600 to go one way. I'm excitedddddd thanks S.

is Albert Hering vegan? or does he savor the flavor of murder. the turkey he festivly fries. The sizzling taste of murder. Morrissey is American now.

Elissaaaaaaaa. Yeah, that clip was sick. I hadn't seen dat one. makes me want a god dam mini ramp in my backyard.
Posted By: Jgonzalez on November 21st, 2012 at 06:39PM PST
Jgonz,
Q: do credit cards work?
A: Yes. But ones with a \\\\\\\'chip\\\\\\\' work even better.
(many US cards don\\\\\\\'t have it, but ask your bank)
Posted By: ed on November 21st, 2012 at 09:42PM PST
Q: how much money should I bring?
A: Its always nice to have some cash to change in the airport or even before you go. Then you will have UK Pounds in your pocket for taxi's and trains right from the start.
Q: how can I pay for stuff, I don't want to carry around tons of money?
A: Pay by cash or credit. If you have all your cash in your bank, you can just use any ATM like normal and pull out the cash you need each day.
Posted By: ed on November 21st, 2012 at 09:43PM PST
Q: where should I go, what museums, churches, places, things.
A: Everywhere! Most museums are free. The Tate Modern, the National Gallery and Portrait gallery are free unless you want to see the main exhibit, then you have to pay. Victoria and Albert museum. Trafalgar square, Buckingham palace, the queens walk, southbank skatepark, Hayward Gallery, Picadilly, Leicester Square, Camden Town, Covent Garden, Earls court and the Skateshop, so much!
Q: can I ride the train to paris?
A: Yes. It costs a bit, flying may be cheaper but less romantic. (You would switch from Pounds to Euros, but the ATM thing is the same.)
Q: how many days would that take.
A: the train ride is only a few hours.
Posted By: ed on November 21st, 2012 at 09:43PM PST
no travelers checks.
Posted By: ed on November 21st, 2012 at 09:44PM PST
Albert is vegan
Posted By: ed on November 21st, 2012 at 09:44PM PST
Thanks a lot for the suggestions of places to visit. So far I only have the British Museum, London Eye on my list.
Earl's court and Picadilly. Camden. must. go. Those sound familiar from Mozzer songs. ha.

Thanks for the tips ;) :*
Posted By: Jgonzalez on November 21st, 2012 at 10:26PM PST
The ATM thing makes me feel better. when I went to mexico I was literally walking around with 100 dollar bills. so if I got robbed and murdered it would have been totally worth it.
Posted By: Jgonzalez on November 21st, 2012 at 10:28PM PST
I'm glad you liked the vid Jgonz! I had feeling you would! I always like to lurk youtube!

Those are very good tips!

No better person to fill us in on traveling than Ed T!

Happy Thanksgiving you guys!

I'm thankful for all you guys! It's pretty cool how were all Ed T/Toymachine fans! And we can come here and be united!

Thankful for the internet!

I'm scared to go to Mexico.
Posted By: Josiah on November 22nd, 2012 at 05:39PM PST
The London eye is whatevs. Cool to see, but I couldn't see going on it. So touristy. The places and signs in London are dripping with connections to Morrissey songs. Check out claire de rouen bookstore, my fave in London. St Paul's cathedral, tower bridge, walk along the Thames from the London eye to the tower bridge. You pass south bank park, the tate modern, and do much else!
Posted By: Ed on November 23rd, 2012 at 12:29AM PST
So much else.
Posted By: Ed on November 23rd, 2012 at 12:29AM PST
I'm thankful for being satisfied with my material possessions that I don't fall into the trap of consumerism (as hard) as people that really need more megapixels and a three inch wider tv. yeah. I have food, car, stuff. life is ok.

Mexico is probably weird if you don't know anybody. Same with any place

hahaha. London Eye, whatevs? I kind of want to go on it, you know just to brag about doing such a cliche thing. be like "yeah, I did it, so what"

Should I bring nothing but Morrissey shirts when I travel? I would look like such a nerd. Maybe i'll pick up some more Moz tees while I'm there, stock up...

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm taking notes.

Is that real? Can't be

I think its real. Nyjah talks about it on Weekend Buzz.

Damn, my biggest fear growing up was being kidnapped. My mom was always all paranoid about it and it sort of gave me the impression that it would actually happen to me at any time.
I grew up right next to where they found two of this guys victims, so I think that gave my mom the idea we weren't safe, lol

If that xgames kidnapping is real, I truly hope that kid has been found/is okay. Googling now

yo ed you got any photos from the good and evil days you could post?

lacking on the site. My grandma has taken over my room again, don't know for how long. I'll be checking in periodically, when I get the chance.
Posted By: Mike on November 26th, 2012 at 06:30PM PST
So I went to a pretty sweet screening last night, I didn't catch the Ed and Deanna cameo which I had heard about.
The footage was good, but the whole thing felt so grandiose and over done.

Where have the introverts gone? Skateboarding seems to be run by jocks, aspiring rappers, and wannabe rockstars. It felt like a football game or something, a packed room full of drunken people screaming at the top of their lungs.
Distracted me from the video

*End rant*

Jesus Fernandez, Marc Johnson, and Guy absolutely killed it. Sean Malto had a pretty nuts part as well. (there were other great parts, my mind is just drawing blank at the moment.)
Posted By: Tenant on November 28th, 2012 at 09:36AM PST
And Alex Olson! How could I forget
Posted By: Tenant on November 28th, 2012 at 09:40AM PST
Tenant- lucky! Ed and Deanna cameo? I wanna see Mark Johnson and Brian Anderson's part!

I'm not gonna but it though. I'd rather buy some Toy narco, or Fosko. I'll just wait till it's on Youtube. That's how I saw Bake and Destroy and Rise and Shine.lol Pirates!

God speed Mike!

buy*

I'm really picky about where my money goes now.
Posted By: Josiah on November 28th, 2012 at 02:51PM PST
I saw tony hawk mentioned that him, Ed, and Deanna made small cameos.
Brian andersons footage was sick but he really didn't have much, hopefully he will have a part for Nike soon.
I guess he is getting a pro shoe from them, I won't be buying it as i dont support Nike at all, but he is very deserving of his own shoe.

Marc Johnson's part was awesome, and edited to 5 years by David Bowie so that made it extra intense
Posted By: Tenant on November 28th, 2012 at 03:34PM PST
Someone posted a link to the Pretty Sweet video today on FB.
It was tempting but we´ll have a screening at a theater here on friday.
So I´ll wait to see it on the big screen.Kenny Anderson and some other guys were at the premiere last week in Frankfurt...
Rumor has it that some of the guys will show up in Cologne as well.Should be fun.
