Barcelona for the NY Times 9
Earlier this year I went to Barcelona with the New York Times Style Magazine, "T," to shoot photos for a travel story revolving around the fact that Barcelona has historically been a hub of Skateboard, Art, and Graffiti culture. Sadly, the article (and hence my photos) will never run because of staffing changes at the magazine. So I will do a series of posts sharing the photos I took on that trip to Spain this April, 2012.
This post will deal with the recently restored and reopened Palau Güell.
It's a house designed by the famous architect Antoni Gaudí for the rich guy Eusebi Güell.
A view from the rooftop. you can see Torre Agbar, and Catedral.
Looking east towards the coast.
An inquisitive man.
Climb that spiral staircase to the top.
Gaudi was known for using a mosaic finish.
It has beautiful mushroom style smoke stacks.
Visit the Palau Guell, when you can.
The inside is dark and lush.

Just went into the city yesterday, and had two star sightings. First I saw the lead singer of the Strokes, but I didn't snap a photo with him. He lives next to The Strand, or was going into that building at least. And then I'm walking down the street and I ran into Bill Powers, the guy who curated Teenage Kissers or owns Half Gallery. I talked to him, he was thumbing through vinyls outside of some music store near Union Square. He was debating buying a Huey Lewis and the News album, the same one from American Psycho I think, he talked about that scene.

Altough David wasn\'t my favourite pick this year (that was Guy) I think he did deserve it just as much as the others, he skated like a madman in his posessed to skate video. In my mind there is no doubt that he worked his ass of for that part. I think the Phelper has kind of a mancrush on David, but I don\'t think it was unfair game. His sponsors gave him alot of ads in thrasher to get votes, I\'m sure he got them too.

Everyone knows it's Phelp's decision. They factor whoever does a lot of shit for Thrasher also, and gets tons of coverage.
Anyway. David's part was crazy, it was also kind of one of the only parts full of tons of clips that really were on another level. Like his last trick. Plus his throwing up the horns metal demeanor nihilistic approach to skating fits the Thrasher image pretty good. So, in the constraints of the year of 2012, David killed it. I don't even read the magazine anymore, no subscription. LOL.
I wonder how David's style will change as he ages, or will he forever wear black jeans with a black logo tee and headband. Can David rock dickies, flannel and a beanie. or I guess nowadays highwaters, 5 panel, and pocket tee with back logo.

hahaha yea David is "Thrasher's" SOTY. Thrasher is okay as far as coverage goes. I used to sub to Skateboarder, I like that mag, they always have a lot of Toy stuff.
The only mag I don't really read is The skateboard mag. I would read Transworld but I cant ever find em.
