Barcelona for the NY Times 10

Earlier this year I went to Barcelona with the New York Times Style Magazine, "T," to shoot photos for a travel story. Sadly, the article (and hence my photos) will never run because of staffing changes at the magazine. So I will do a series of posts sharing the photos I took on that trip to Spain this April, 2012.

Today's post will be all B&W.

Love the amount of old couples walking in Barcelona. Such a great societal custom.

great post. The first shot with the reflection in the pond is really beautiful. And the lifeless-looking tree in the middle is almost symbolic. Those kids look rebellious. The man with one leg in the wheelchair is sad. He looks like he`s about to cry, but I bet thats just him reading his pamplet. The old couple out walking are sweet, they look kind of rich and educated. Her jewelery and his pipe. Old people should get out more.

In other news, there is so much snow here that the roads and railroads are closed. I`m basically trapped in my house.

haha thanks for the support guys, I didn`t see the comments about the zine until now. I`ll be alright paying for shipping :) I`m sure its not THAT much. And I would love to meet you Ed. That would definitly be a dream come true for me. Your art and words have influensed me in a very positive way in the last three years or so. It`s good to have someone to look up to in life. So thanks!

I really love this post, your b&w shots are always awesome.
Emilie summed it up better than I ever could.
Just want to add that the selfie picture is awesome, I love photos of photos being taken, especially goofy selfies in public.

Sorry to hear you're trapped inside from the snow, it doesn't snow much where I live anymore but I do rememeber an ice storm that had my family stuck inside once, but for only four days and I'm already a homebody so it didn't feel too different from my average life.

It was just for a day and a half, so I'm good. I was home alone with my puppy this weekend and it was actually very relaxing.

This post is deep.

Just ordered the new zine. I feel like $6 is an outrageous price to ship a single zine, what is his deal?

Though $16 overall isn't bad for a 60 page zine, I can't wait to get it
Posted By: Tenant on December 18th, 2012 at 02:20PM PST
Ahhhh. A full post. Nice. I know, this has been up for a second and I haven't even commented. Yeah, i'm falling off also.

LOL. Tenant is questioning authority. yeah. A zine would be like 2 dollars. but. these guys gotta profit and it's an Ed zine. I'm ok with supporting artists.

First pic is pretty good.

Nice to see people loiter doorways around the world. Constantly smoking. Cigarettes make you feel good, maybe exchanging pleasure for time. Time lost brings you near death but when you have nothing but time it doesn't matter. live life accelerated.

Bocadillo. I just googled it and clicked on the wikipedia article. Mouthful? is that the translation. His shoes are so fashionable.

Selfie nation. I'm too ugly to be sold. Posts of no value.

I want to see russian homeless signs.
I have hunger. I do not have money.
Old couples. hm. The concept of relationships. I dunno. I am young.
nope. I don't know the guy.
Missing his leg. fuck. Give the extra flip flop to a kid that skates regular. that dude is Goofy footed by fate

Small cup, big woman.
I just got a memory foam pillow. My dad randomly stopped by and left it on my porch. It's weird. I dunno.

oh. and the zine might be shipped really fancy like for 6 bucks. who knows. We'll all jizz when we get our copies in the mail. In all honesty I haven't even googled the other artist. just bought it on Ed's name alone. Artistic competitiveness.
Subguey comes fresh.

overlord. I'm putting together a get well package. k. feel free to burn it for heat this winter. yuletide logs

Haha, well now im thinking, I sell used records, tapes, and CDs online every once in a while and understand that when you have a big order it's pretty shitty and time consuming to have to pack everything for shipping.
So I'll now consider the left over of the shipping price a tip, he has probably been spending a lot of time getting these ready.
Posted By: Tenant on December 19th, 2012 at 09:09AM PST
Also, yeah. I'm going to shit myself when I actually get it.
I ordered late though so I'm not expecting it for at least another week.

Hahaha, memory foam pillow on the porch. Did he let you know in advance he'd be dropping it by or did you just wake up to it?

I need a new pillow, damn.
Posted By: Tenant on December 19th, 2012 at 09:13AM PST
Oh and one more, I guess I don't consider it a tip. $16 is cheap for such a big zine. Printing is expensive
Plus I'd spend like twice the price for this

That guitar case ruining the photo is clearly the work of the nefarious swirly triple eye society, responsible for interfering with photography since the early 1600's.

Ed, I am printing zines today and if I have one left (which I should) I'm going to mail one to Robert's&Tilton attn:'d to you.
I'm sure you get a ton of these, so I apologize if it just adds to a huge mail overload

So I got a pheed account. I guess I feel a little raped since Instagram changed.

Subscribe to me and I'll subscribe to you. @skaterofsox

I'm still gonna use insta though. The cool thing about pheed is you can post profanity.

I made a feed. I was thinking my ADHD wasn't bad enough

Hey. Guys. I got my zine. Yeah. Not sure about the other guy in the mag. Will they read this comment? I'm not saying you suck I'm saying show me more, make me shut the fuck up.
Posted By: Jgonzalez on December 20th, 2012 at 09:02PM PST
JGonz, I think he reads these.

I don't have the zine yet. Can't wait for it.

Coming to New York anytime soon Ed?
Posted By: Mike on December 21st, 2012 at 08:13PM PST
I got mine today. I like it. Grants zines are really good too. I like how he put little quotes by the pictures.

Btw how does one get involved making a zine with Ed? It would be so cool to collab with you! Not me but for someone who has more talent in photography.
