beans and rice(together), soy, and nuts are good sources of protein for vegans. Also granola often has a lot of protein, especially the hemp granola at whole foods...

That food has plenty of protein.
There is a myth that humans need tons of protein, but the study was done on mice, and they need more protein than us.

The accepted standard for protein is 1 gram for every 2 lbs of body weight, per day.
140lbs-70 grams of protein per day
200lbs- 100 grams
if you eat three balanced meals per day, plus snacks (the non-sugarbased ones :) ) it shouldn't be hard to get this much.
Some people need more protein... some need less... depends on what your body is like, what your activity level is, etc.
In any case, if you're healthy, your body will tell you when you need more fats or proteins, or carbohydrates etc.... that's called hunger!

Although Whole Foods does offer many products for vegans, and is a LIFESAVER for me while on tour, they are still a giant company, and in it for $$$, which inevitably makes them lame.
I guess what I would say is, they need to go a lot further to promote a healthier vegetarian/vegan than they do.
They mainly cater to the rich people who want free range steaks, and gourmet fixin's...

I realize that eventhough Whole Foods does have a plethora of vegan delights, they are no better than any other componay whose sole purpose is to make a profit. It was just an example, do support your local health food store(or skate shop, cd store etc) Hell, even grow your own garden, it's fun(trust me)!
